For the third year running, a group of not-so-serious cyclists have set themselves the considerably serious challenge of cycling between London and Athens. |
The ride is a relay-style challenge, with each participant taking on just one or two weeks of the overall trip. Each leg is completed in small, tight-knit groups. |
The aim of the trip is to fundraise £50,000 for refugees arriving in Athens. To do this we'll test our leg power, as well as our willpower, by riding really far through Europe, with each cyclist getting sponsored at least £500 for the effort. |
Like you, we’ve had enough of watching the news and feeling powerless in the face of everything we've seen. We realised that with just a bicycle, a wiggly red line on a map and a generous social circle who felt as moved by it all as we did, we might be able lend a hand. |
Well lucky you, there are 3 ways: 1. The next ride to Athens will be in July-September 2019, dates to be confirmed in the New Year 2. We're concocting a NEW type of ride, that will be all about learning about the UK refugee situation. Keep the first May bank holiday free for a little cycle and a lot of learning. 3. Since the adventure began in 2016, we have raised nearly £250,000 for Khora, a community centre providing vital support for refugees arriving in Athens.
|
Khora and the work they do continues to inspire us. We've prepped our legs, hopped on our bikes and we're off to attempt to make the world a little less sh*t.
