This is the glory run, and what a glorious one it will be!
Expect the landscape to be arid and your body to be soaked in sweat. Expect dips in the sea, and to perfect your ability to spot a public tap from a kilometre away.
Expect to drink more water than you thought possible and even a little home-made raki from whichever kind stranger puts us up for the night.
The week finishes with a few final sweaty climbs then a descent into Athens; tired, hot and with all of our emotions rolled into one confusing and wonderful mess!
We'll start with a couple of fairly flat days, getting some hot and sweaty miles in before hitting the coast. Next we'll whizz past Mount Olympus. Greek god and hill-climb fans can take on an optional climb into the myth-filled mountains to high-five Zeus and make sure their thighs really hurt.
A short ferry ride will take us on to the beautiful Island of Evia, where we'll make a beeline for the natural hot springs on the beach. Having a mineral-filled hot tub on the Greek shore couldn't be more scenic. Well it could, if you were there alone, without the other sweaty cyclists and the occasional gang of OAP German tourists. Still, pretty great though.
A few decent climbs later and we'll arrive in Athens. We'll be tired, hot and all of our emotions will be rolled into one big, confusing and wonderful mess!
*Plans may change and daily distances may vary as we scout for camping spots along the way. Take the below with a pinch of salt and a slurp of energy gel.
We’re available for airport pick-ups throughout the day. Then we’ll all come together in the evening for dinner and a chat about the week to come.
Cycle around 130km down the coast and camp with the gods watching over us from their perch on Mount Olympus.
Cycle about 90km with a big climb at the end of the day. We'll finish somewhere near lake Limni Karla. Well-earned swim anyone?
Cycle around 120km cycle ending with a ferry across to Evia Island and a well-deserved dip in the natural hot springs.
We'll ride about 85km through the heart of the island, wild camping atop the penultimate climb of Thighs of Steel 2018.
A relatively easy cycle of 55km, hopefully leaving us some time to swim, eat and relax at our seaside camp during the evening.
The final day of the whole trip! We'll start the day with a big climb before riding down into Athens to Khora. We’ll get the chance to see the project we are all supporting, eat great food, hug, cry and rest our thighs.
Wake up, a mixture of tired and elated, wander around the city in a happy daze. We’re available for airport drops throughout the day.
The standard cost to take part is £385 per week.
We are also providing 5 discounted places, at £250 per week. These places are intended for refugees and long-term volunteers working in the refugee crisis. If this is you then get in touch here to apply. NB. Our fully-funded 2 free places are now taken.
